R.E.Y. performed a feasibility study for the construction of pedestrian and bicycle improvements along Riley Street, a crucial corridor serving Historic Downtown Folsom, the central commercial district, and Sutter Middle School, and providing access across Lake Natoma via the Rainbow Bridge. Riley Street currently lacks pedestrian and bicycle facilities.
Central to R.E.Y.’s feasibility study was the use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technology, which provided a detailed and visual analysis of the project area and its surrounding community. R.E.Y. designed GIS tools which enabled precise mapping and analysis, facilitating the creation of safer pedestrian and bicyclist travel routes.
R.E.Y. also played a key role in community engagement, using GIS to compile and analyze valuable community input gathered through multiple channels. They released and managed two MetroQuest online surveys, held a public meeting, and participated in the annual City Works Day event.
The effectiveness of R.E.Y.’s GIS-driven efforts is evident as the project was recommended and partially funded through the Transportation, Housing, and Urban Development Appropriations bill.
